Some little wool punched blocks came in to the shop and there was very little back ground fabric on some of them, ?they need a lot of help in way or the other, I’m turning them in to a child’s cuddly or comfort quilt

Found the below this morning,? a sample of how to reverse applqiue? it was called, but not sure if thats the correct word, it was a night mare to do as I’d used a calico for the top fabric and it was far far to loose a weave, not sure how I ever managed to complete it LOL

I think it is the best way to do those beautiful Japanese symbols that are so intricate?

What I ahve been working on over the last 24hrs , started at 8pm last night, some tiny?pieces of beige calico? with punch work were handed in to the Opp Shop.? I brought them home and have been working out how I could make them big enough for a child’s quilt, I was able to save 7 pieces. Below is what I’ve been doing .

Punch worked blocks on beige calico

Punch worked blocks on beige calico. Will frame them in a deep red or blue child’s print then join them all together.? Top left hand corner has two sides done in the red so far.??

This is the wee dragon fly that came to visit covered in spider web!!!? I managed to cup him in one hand and slowly remove the web and then let him fly away to live another couple of months hopefully????

This morning I watched this spider build this web it was incrediable how fast he worked and spun this incrediable web?????

kjh

It’s hard to believe they can make this much thread? then recoil?it all?!!!!!

kjh

Look at his legs pulling those threads tight?????

Thanks for dropping in, I’ve not finished my blog its been a very busy day so far, so will finish it today or tomorrow as it will still be Wednesday some where in the world LOL

WOW or WIP’s with Esther 30th Jan 2020.

My first 3 blocks of Red Delicious.

My first 3 blocks of Red Delicious.

Hi every one,? I did think 2020 was going to be a great year, well quilting and sewing wise for me it’s been wonderful, ?my knee has improved so much I now can sit for several hours at the craft table sewing or drafting, ?I’ve been prepping my Red Delicious blocks like crazy and having so much fun, but not much sleep LOL. ?Sleeps in the day time stopped some where in the ?month !!!

Going to publish even though I have not done my caption, its all ready 1.30pm and I need to do some house work and prep dinner !!! Will write captions as soon as possible.

First up was I finished prepping my first block of Red Delicious.

Jhg

Jhg

Jhhb

The white satin stitch was using white sulky thread and stitiching so so slowly and changing the width of the stitch constantly?

Hhg

That satin stitch took me 10 mins LOL after nearly 2 hrs of?trying all sorts of width’s and lengths samples LOL

Jhh

But now I’m happy with the look?? Used a colonial knot for the centre of the pupil!!!

Start of my prepping for block 2 of Red Delicious

Jjn

Procrastinating over which colours to use for the wee caps over the Nightshade berries?

Hhg

DO I put the darkest fabric in the front?petal or the back petal!!! ended up in the front !!!

Yhh

Now I’m working on prepping block 4!! Just hope it works out as I see it in my mind????

Hgf

Fabric I want to use for the vase is not long enough so Ive had to work out a way to still use the fabric !!!!? ?I’ve cut two pieces to make the vase but I want that join to be invisbale???

Gfff

Thi sis some ribbon given to me when I was in France.? ?Its perfect for here.

Hgt

I fused some ononfusing to the back of the wide ribbon

Jhy

To get a perfect fit I placed the pice of vase I cut out then pressed it all together on my Teflon sheet.

WOW or WIP’s 22nd Jan 2020

Morning to you all who have woken to a beautiful Wednesday also.? Showing photo’s of parts of one of my blocks for WIL? ?Its taken me a long time to applqiue down all those fish I added in the border????? It was fun making up the border but WOW it was hard work appliqueing down those wee fish!!!!!

WIL

Machine appliqueing down one of the big border perse flowers

WIL

Did this one a year ago almost!!!!

WIL

Making?my flower fishes eye????

WIL

Threads so many threads to pull through and weave in to the back!!!!

WIL

Highlighting the centre of the flower with blue thread doing double back stitch, on a very low stitch length.

WIL

WIL

Those fish and I still have 3 more borders to do yet!!!!!

WIL

They are lovely but oh me oh my!!!!!

WIL

WIL

SO close now to appliqueing down that big flower It was left to last to save touching it all the time when appliqueing every thing else down?? When machine appliqueing I find the block get pushed and shoved so much through the machine throat????? ?SO leaving the main applqiue till last.

I have??had RD on my bucket since 2009?? ?I never made it back when Esther released it as it was about 1/4 of the way through the BOM and I knew nothing about online BOM so I watched instead, let’s say I may make some of the blocks in 2020? ?Making the first one and have taken photos for ?those who may want some help making theirs? ?This is a photo tutorial on how I built mine up to where I’m at now.

RD

Using white on white fabrics, not all the same fabric but all white on white. Remember to cut slightly bigger than measurements to allow for shrinkage when doing appliqué, then cut to size when you have finished the block?

Base for the Cherry thieves

Base for the Cherry thieves, yes it’s not red, I will be adding a little colour other than Red here and there?

Start of the pieces for irononfussing machine applique

Start of the pieces for irononfussing machine applique, these little legs are so cute? ?Making them up as one piece rather than seperate legs.

RD

Have ironed the legs to the body so I won’t lose them and they are ironed to the base. ?Main part of bird is not ironed down as I have the beaks, and cherry stalk to thread through his beak first .

RD

Made up his wing separately and will iron it on to the body as a whole wing .

RD

He has his cherries on the stalk threaded through his beak, again I made up the stalk and cherries then added them .

RD

Slowly it takes shape, it’s taking me much longer than I thought it would.

RD

He looks happier with his eye, that wee eye is made up of? 4 pieces all so tiny!

RD

This was as far as I got this afternoon and tonight so my little female bird has no eye or wing, may be tomorrow morning which will be Wednesday?

I was at the beach last week and was watching the swimmers wash them selves down on the edge of the beach under a public showers and though how sad here we can run a tap for hrs and down South they have NO water??????

WOW or WIP’s 1st Jan 2020

Happy New Years Day All.

How I enjoyed typing 2020 just now. I’m so so sure it’s going to be a great year for most people it has such a great ring to it.
Yesterday while cleaning in dark places I don’t usually look!!! I pulled out a box and after dusting of a pile of dust found memories from the sewing past?! ?So my first post is about when I started quilting ? ?And where I was at back then 26 years ago?

Kjj

I was living in Papua New Guinea behind barb-wire with a lot of time on my hands after work 3 jobs and then not able to do any work or even do? volunteering work? ?So I joined a sewing quilting group! ?This turned my life around for the next 25 years till now LOL. ?I’d been doing candle-wicking for several years and so started to teach others in PNG. ?Above is some of my sample pieces I used?

Jhh

These 4 blocks were how I taught but gave them a pre pack to start with using silks for the back ground!

Hhbb

These were the packs I made up so they had a choice of colours.? I must finish the yellow silk one!? LOL

Hhb

Teaching them to free hand draw a simple design from the centre flower and learn to make new shapes!

Hhb

These were tiny broaches I taught back then ?25 years ago using brass rings and a 1/2 circle of felt .

Hgg

Green piece??ended up a small bag for sewing bits and pieces, ?it was just so they could have a choice of what to make?
A great wee bag to carry with bits and piece to sew while out waiting or just driving some where?

A great wee bag to carry with bits and piece to sew while out waiting or just driving some where?

Working an O in colonial knots and French knots!

You could keep on adding knots to make the O wider but for me this is enough?

You could keep on adding knots to make the O wider but for me this is enough?

Close up of those knots?

Close up of those knots? ?It’s not difficult i5 just takes lots of time?

Jhg

Then one meeting I asked if some one would show me how they made those lovely wee fabric flowers??? ?Some were made of fabric hearts some with something like petals to me back then LOL.

Hgv

My petal flowers from 25 years ago!!! ?I still like making them but use washaway freezer paper now not cardboard as you see here, but still small flowers?

Then

Then some one showed me how to make easy Drunkards path blocks with a circle and a square background?! and I had fun with those?? But my love kept going back to applqiue work? How to make a perfect heart for appliquéing on to a top or a dress?

Cut out your hearts in a perfect shape of your liking.

Cut out your hearts in a perfect shape of your liking. ?After cutting out your heart shape stitch around the edge leaving only around a little more than 1/8th

Backside of the hearts.

Backside of the hearts. ?Slit a hole in the back area of the heart and turn the heart inside out, work the edges in a rolling fashion to get the seam to lye flat and press. Add some wadding through the back slit if you want a puffy look to your heart .

Then I decided to teach my self to make clam shells!!!

Then I decided to teach my self to make clam shells!!! Yes they were only 2inchs across and down?

Yes I made this tiny tiny double sided shells till some one one showed me a very simple and fast wayLLLOL.

Yes I made these tiny tiny double sided shells and even added padding to them till some one one showed me a very simple and fast way to make clam shells LLLOL.

So I then made the below?! my first challenge with several other quilters which was called From The Rainforest To The Reef.? We could only use a piece of fabric once, and had to use the same shape through out?? so there was a lot of swapping of fabrics LOL? My stash then would not even have filled a small draw so i started cutting up clothes!!!!! There were no fabric shops in PNG>? I ended up attaching my shell shapes to a black satin fabric and called it the “Unfinished Symphony” and added circles around the edge as I did not know how to finish the raw edges on the clamshells!!!!!? I sure jumped in the deep end back then?

MVC-011F

Where ?ever you are? enjoying New Year’s Day or just waking up to it over the next 7 or 8 hrs.? I wish you a great 2020 year.? ?CHeers Glenda

WOW or WIP’s 11th December 2019

Hi ALL with all the things going on I’m late writing up my blog, have uploaded photo but no messages or captions this week????? ?Lets see how far I get this time? its 10am now.

Sharing how I made my Pineapple for Hold On To Your Heart by Esther Alue this is Part 8 .

Silk Fabric I dyed for the pineapple topknot and big green leaves

Silk Fabric I dyed for the pineapple topknot and big green leaves,? the light beige fabric is what I used to dye the dark green fabric,? it has a lovely silver thread woven through it.

Kmn6

Using seal and press to cut out my pieces from ironfussing for the pineapple topknot and base leaves ?these will be rawedge not turned. all tiny pieces are numbered or mark some way?

Nnnn

First I place a small teflon sheet down and I start working left to right this works for me

Jnbb

Slowly working across, pinning each piece as I go in place.

Hbbb

One completed top knot ready for the iron to seal all together.

Jnb

All ironed together ready to be stored till I applique it down on to my background fabric

Jhb

Just playing now to see how it will look and how I will build it on my background fabric. I made 28 of those tiny shapes that I built my pineapple from.

Jnbb

Add a few leaves

Hbbb

A few more slowly.

Promgrantet

Pomegranate will be fun to make using irononfussing and the outer parts turned applqiue?

It needs a splash of yellow

Bottom leaves of pineapple added, seeds of the pomegranate,? and it needed a splash of yellow, so we have a sunflower LOL .

Finally the berries!

Finally the berries! ?Now to find the time to make the other 1/2? of this blocks LOL.

Hbbv

Close up of those pineapple shapes ?

In the garden this week.

Hgfd

Nov or Christmas lilly it is commonly known as here

Nhgf

One of my favorite treasures in the garden it surprises me each year.

Hgv

He landed on our front terrace and when I was trying to photograph him he got quiet angry, so threw a towel over him and threw him back in to the trees.

Start of a tree ants nest which I nearly ene.

One side of the two leaves that they have stitched together to form there nest.? Start of a tree ants nest which I nearly touch, I? was pruning the tree and this was on one of the ones I cut down. They are very vestie and you do not want to get to close to them.

Jhgg

Its a bit like a football shape leaves are around 8inchs long and 5 across. When they? want another room they pull another leave across and attach that one and they can have up to 12 or more leaves all pulled in to make there nests .

Kjjh

Came to visit last night

Upclose and personal, one of our local wee frogs which the garden is full of after the rain last night?

WOW or WIP’s 20th Nov 2020.

What’s right in front of me as I write my blog!

What’s right in front of me as I write my blog!

I think every morning how lucky I am to live in such a spot?

I think every morning how lucky I am to live in such a spot? Looking down to the river and across to the Kuranda Ranges.

I write the 20 th of Nov and realise there’s only 5 weeks till Christmas morning? ? I realise that all been well I will be at my Son and DDIL’s home ?and with luck will walk along the beach if I want to at Noosa one of the most beautiful spots in OZ!

But now I’m sitting??on my veranda looking at a beautiful view, and thinking about making leaves for my HOTYH Quilt , this is one of the most enjoyable quilts I have ever made, there’s so much in it, many challenges and oh the joy when you manage to do them LOL.

Today I will share in photos how I meet the challengers of making the tiny bouquets.

Glorious Yellows

Glorious Yellows? I dyed during the week. Its so much fun seeing the fabric change?

Greens and more greens

Greens and more greens in the foreground is the silk I used for all the colours I made, it’s a very pale pink mushroom colour, it’s from a silk kimono about 1930’s ?it has a lovely weave pattern so gives lots of texture to the new dyed fabrics.

Made up 3 leaves first to see if they were going to look like what my mind was seeing LOL.

Going to be a perfect foil for this tiny wee flowers!

Now to share how I made those leaves using cut out shapes of washaway freezer paper.

First I traced all the leaf shapes on to the washaway freezer paper, numbered them , T for top of the leaf B for bottom, then added letters telling which one went where on the bouquet on both 1/2s. Last was a mark of 3 dots on each 1/2 where I was going to cut the leaf in 1/2 so I knew at a glance they were the middle join, when you have lots of 1/2 leaves it saves a lot of time?

Kjhb

Making up my leaf shapes bit by bit so I can show you how I make them.

Hggf

Starting bottom right hand side ?First step is drawing my leaf shape by placing my washaway freezer paper over the leaf shapes, it is clear enough to see the pattern under it. ?Then cut the leaf shape out and add all the reminder points on the two sides . ?Step 2 iron all the shapes to the fabric cut out shapes this is where I use those 3 dots along the seam to remind me to leave a good 1/4 inch seam allowance? ? ? ?Step 3 roll back centre line of one side of the leaf where you added the reminder dots. You can use glue I needle baste. ? Look closely at photo and you will see that the right 1/2 is rolled back. ? ?Step 4 place rolled back 1/2 on top of the other seam, it will sit snug make sure you even these parts up perfectly, glue into place or like I do baste it!? Top row? from right to left first two have been basted together.? 3rd one I have stitched the two halve together and removed all basting threads it is now ready to applqiue to my block.? ? Happy sewing!!!!

Leaves slowly been added, I was hoping to have all the leaves finished for my first bouquet but they take longer to make than I thoughtLOL.

WOW or WIP’s 13th Nov 2019

I find it hard to believe that it’s Nov and to me this means 2019 is almost over as Nov and Dec seem take on a very excelerated pace and we don’t seem to have enough time to do every thing we want to do before Christmas arrives and the New Year rush’s in the door. ?But first I want to share how I have finally decided how I’m going to make ?up my bouquet for HOTYH . I will share it in photos as for most of us it is easy to follow visually.

Remember I can not use glue and starch here in the wet tropics as it goes mould on the fabrics and all so stains the silks, even pins rust here now in a few months during the wet season if left in the fabric, so you can not pin baste here it’s all needle basting?!

I did know I wanted it to be in the red colours

I did know I wanted it to be in the red colour tones, so I needed lots of washaway freezer paper circles a round 170 and fabrics.

But I did not have enough silks so I decided to dye some silk fabric.

But I did not have enough silks so I decided to dye some silk fabric. These are all the same fabric top right hand piece is the original colour. ?Love how the weave of the fabric stands out now I have dyed the fabric. ?Cheers

Just love this deep red I ended up with.

Just love this deep red piece I ended up with.

Next I need my pattern which I pinned to a piece of polystyrene so easy to stick pins in to, you need lots of fine sharp pins when working with silks.

I started make the flower that was right at the back of the arraignment

I started to make the flower that was right at the back of the arraignment, I decided on tiny circles to solve my problem of not been able to use glue or starch when I saw Shelia’s beautiful Bouquet.

Using pins to keep each tiny piece in place

Using pins to keep each tiny piece in place

Made up a few wee circles and ironed from the back only so I wouldn’t flatten the front to much.

Next flower also sitting at the back

Making up. Few more wee flowers and having fun doing it.

Slowly it grows

Slowly it grows

Adding some more colour

Adding some more colour. These circles are small but not to small to make with ease. ?I will show how I make the smallest ones easy too if I have time today. ?It’s after midnight so Wednesday has started for me Down Under.

And now it’s starting to look like a bouquet

And now it’s starting to look like a bouquet

More depth is showing now I’m loving making this beautiful bouquet finally after months of procrastination

It needs yellow! And the leaves to give it some ump!!!

Two more flowers to mak e before I decide my final placements

Two more flowers to mak e before I decide my final placements it does need some yellow.

I have enough tiny flowers now to complete one bouquet, now to make 70 more wee circles and a few leaves? !

Update 10pm, I have enough tiny flowers now to complete one bouquet, now to make 70 more wee circles and a few leaves? !

Kjh

You I have so loved making this wee bouquet after procrastination over it for ?months?

So today I will be making more tiny flowers for here that’s 14 more circles for this bouquet and 70 wee circles for the other one?!

Thank you All for keeping me company with messages over the last 3 months of recover, I finally feel like I’ve joined the quilting world again. ? Still can not use my machine but I’m hand sewing and playing again.

Cheers Glenda

WOW or WIP’s. 6th Nov 2019

Another week has crept past fast and still not a lot of sewing done, except more beautiful rose blooms and I started making my rose buds the final part to this glorious border.

This morning I was up before 6 as I wanted to make up this corner of HOTYH to show new quilters how I set about making this border.? SO lay out the corner of the patten on my verranda see bottom photo of this group.

First make sure there are no fans that are going to turned on or that there is NO?nasty winds that can come at any time?????

My bias that I will use for my stems, this was given to me

My bias that I will use for my stems,? was gifted ?to me by a lovely lady in France who once had a haberdashery shop and these were still in boxes in one of her rooms, I have been using them for the last 10 years and these are the last of them.

Kjhg

My dark purple I will use for my thick stems, pinky purple for the thinner and the brown for the thin stems. When ever I use Laure’s (DDIL) Aunty’s gift of these ribbons and bias rolls I just wish she could see the quilts they have gone in to making.

Jhgf

First I made my leaves All of them over 300 if I remember right? ?I wanted lots of colour in my leaves so used all two toned leaves and all scrappy.

First I made my leaves All ofthem

Then it was the fun of making my rosehip heads. I showed how I made these in a earlier blog.

Then the excitement

Then the excitement of making my blooms thank goodness there were 40 of them as I loved making them, have another 9 to go I think I just love making them.? Hope I enjoy machine appliqueing them down!!!!!.

Bbv

last night I made my first 3 rose buds I needed 4 but its only 3 for to day to show you.? ?Adding the yellow inside the middle of the full blooms just makes these blooms POP !!!!

Jjnh

Now I need to added these to my background border fabric.

Different full rose blooms

Same area different full rose blooms, most of them are different, Ive made extra pinks for my basket arrangements.

Yvcc

On my verranda this morning to show you how I will build my HOTYH corners of the final border.? thank goodness it was not windy LOL

For you Dianna

Leave is made up of two halves.

Leaf is made up of two halves. I cut my template? shapes out off 4 layers of freezer paper for my templates normally? but one of my DS has a 3D printer and made me two templates on his computer and that made life so much easier to make 350 of each of these shapes!!!!!? One 1/2 I add a good 1/4inch on to the middle of? it, so one 1/2 is the same size as the pattern the other 1/2 is quiet fat,? this extra 1/4 of an inch slide under the normal piece.

For you Dianna

For you Dianna You can see a mixture of finished leaves. At the top left and right are cut out leaves from scraps of irononfussing fabrics,? ones on the right are the same shape as the leaf pattern, left all have that added 1/4 inch to the middle of the leaf.? middle of the top row right hand side,? two 1/2s facing each other, left side, right? 1/2 is lying on top of the fat leaf this is how it stays till I press it, my leaf is made!!!!!? ? I did discover that good quality hairstraighen irons? make great irons for ironing these leaves??????

Thanks for dropping in, and thanks to Esther’s BOM group that keeps me motivated to write my blog.? So thank you so much those of you who drop in.? ?Cheers Glenda

Have to share this HH with you from Dianne. She does such beautiful needle skills and to see them with my own eyes is incrediable.? The stitches are so fine even with my glasses on I could not see them clearly, I looked under my magnifying glass and still they were so fine to count, ended up with 12 plus stitches to the inch!!!!!!? Thank you Dianne for such a treasure can see why your applique looks so realistic.

This is what I call mini mini stitches I can not see them?

This is what I call mini mini stitches I can not see them? Even from the back it was hard to count those tiny stitches?

To day I have been building my pieces for my big blooms in the final border of HOTYH showing the below for any one new ?to doing iron on fussing when making thes blooms

watch closely at all joins before ironing? See just left of the centre blue petal there is a touch I did not cover! I will cover this with my machine applique, but it does make a weak spot so will add a tiny piece of fabric behind that spot.

TTwo blooms down Yayyyyyy I’m so happy.

now to play with them before starting two more !

This ?is my dinning table Imusing as I’m not able to go down and work in my studio space yet? I just have every thing in dishes or boxes so I can clear the table quickly??!

Hggv

so this is where they belong, ?notice my leaves I like to use lots of colour learnt that from Nancy ?(Paris), loved how her quilts glowed

Up till yesterday all I have been doing since my knee replacement 9 weeks ago is quilting, and doing sashiko quilting on 3 different quilts and some fine quilting on another. ?It was some thing I could see??? ?I found up until recently I was having trouble focussing, now I’m not on so many pain killers m y sight is improving?and I can sit longer, so all been well I will be doing more applique soon?

Hhhhb

Sashiko quilting this quilt.

Jnb

I’m liking the feel of the quilt after I’ve quilted it, I thought it might be stiff but it’s lovely and soft. ?

WOW or WIP’s Wednesday 9th Oct 2019

Have

Have to start the blog off with some thing positive so will share this beautiful palm with the sun kissing it. With our beautiful blue sky behind it.

Plus Jennys Beautiful Quilt:-? This is Jenny Henry’s (from NZ) beautiful quilt called NZ Bridal Quilt, which is Jenny version of the Civil War Bride by Corlisse Searcy; it won first place for Traditional quilts at the Quilt symposium 2019 in Auckland last week.? Jenny added all animals, flowers, and birds you would find in NZ?Image may contain: indoor

This week has been one of endless visits to specialist, Drs and Physio’s One I would like to forget.? SO very little sewing been done. More unpicking than any thing????

My brain has kicked into gear if nothing else has the last two days LOL

I had this lovely kimono fabric that I stacked and slashed?several years ago to show students how it was done. ? Then some time later finally made one lot up and showed you All, but never got much further as I was not happy with the way it was going? ? This is where I was up to??

Just was not happy where this was going too. Just did not excite me?

Just was not happy where this was going too. Just did not excite me? You can see the original design top left hand corner, bottom left hand corner how I was going to make these slashed pieces up!!! ? Top right hand corner two sets sewn together to make in to blocks? ?Bottom right hand corner 5 or 7 sets to sew?

While sitting in bed yesterday my design brain started to tick, ?it meant unpicking all the sewing I had done on these pieces so yesterday and today Tuesday has been unpicking day?

I need to unpick all these pieces?

I have unpicked ?all these pieces?

Trying to put the slashes back in order to the original lay out

Trying to put the slashes back in order to the original lay out

Finally back in place but some hVe been cut shorter how will I solve that problem? Was thinking 1/4 circle but that will be too solid?

Finally back in place but some have been cut shorter how will I solve that problem? Was thinking 1/4 circle but that will be too solid?

Now I have this Ta Dummmmmmmm!!!,!!

Who says YES??? Less is best???

Who says YES??? Less is best???

I think I will make up blocks by doing iron on fussing and try invisible thread to machine applique the slates to the black back ground. ?I could end up with 9 blocks this way?

It was a great end to a endless day of unpicking?

A lovely HH slipped through the mail a couple of days ago, that I’m going to share all though I was not going to keep showing them, this one has to be shared as I’m sure many of you will use the lace that?Sue made on my HH??? ? Thank you so much for All those tiny stitches you did Sue, I love it and it arrived when I was having a blue day too!? ?I wrote Valerie instead of Sue,? so so sorry Sue I had you in my mind but wrote Valerie for some reason unknown??????? ?I’m talking about our dear Sue Taylor!!!!!

Look at that lovely soft blu e lace

See close up NO lace but tiny stitches in back stitch to give the ellision of lace then the random

But look up close? ? ?See NO lace but tiny stitches in back stitch to give the illusion?? of lace then the random Lazy Daisy stitches. How incrediably beautiful is that ???? Sue you have the patience of a Saint????

No photo’s of the garden I’m house bound to day, leg was very sore yesterday so have to behave to day no gardening????? or even wondering around the garden????

Thanks for dropping by. Cheers Glenda who is still sleeping 1/2 the days away!!!!! another 5 weeks and I should be up and running????

WOW or WIP’s with Esther. 11th Sept 2019.

Seems strange that I have not done any sewing for nearly 4 weeks. ? Now when I could my eyes won’t focus I’m hoping it’s the drugs I’m on ?and when I stop taking them I can hand sew again.

Jhgv

THe background is cut from a 1950’s dollie and the embroidery is lovely, the. The hearts and corners are cut from a 1970 1980 serviete that’s been hand dyed by Val very lovely. ?My mum used these and I still use them?!

I have found my self on the receiving end of Healing Hearts instead of sending them . ?I never thought this would happen.

Hgf

A Beautiful KF heart I love his colours but have not worked that often with them, but I did a weekend retreat with him on knitting in NZ about 35 years ago and I admire him so much, I learnt so much about colour that weekend?

I often wondered if these wee hearts did help and here Iam now able to say how much they DO help,

Hds

I love the back ground in this wee heartblock, ?Nancy has raw edge machine appliqued these wee pieces. ?Again it arrived in the mail when I needed a good boost.

Every heart that I have received has arrived when I needed a boost. ?They took me out of my pain or feeling sorry for my self back in to how wonderful life is.

Jhgf

Then just when I was in so much pain one after noon Mary’s lovely hearts ?arrived to make me stop thinking about my self, I remembered using the lovely Japanese blossom in one of my quilts and just loved that fabric.

Ive enjoyed looking up where the HH came from and learn8ng a little about the person who sent it and now they are more than just a name to me.

Loiu

Yesterday on our way home from having a brain MRI ?we stoped to clear the mail and there was this lovely Heart made from the Pohutikawa flower, ?this is from a tree that grows on the coasts of NZ and is often called the Christmas tree as it flowers mid summer and that’s Christmas time in NZ. So it brought back lots of lovely memories and made me for get the pain.

Below is where I’m sitting in bed looking out. Isn’t it a stunning and beautiful place to recover in ???

Juy(

Looking??down the veranda from my bed.

Kju

Looking to my right from my bed, down to the river and across to the range, just beautiful.

Well not a long post but a post?

Thank you All for all your best wishes they sure helped to keep my spirits up over the last 3 weeks.

Off to join Esther’s WOW or WIP’s.

Cheers Glenda

WOW or WIP’s 15th August

When looking for some thing last Wednesday I came ?across a pile of WIP’s ? I kept this one out below and have started to sashiko??quilt it finally. ?It’s call Mother’s ?in war? ? ?It’s all ways the women who suffer so much in a War, regardless of who is winning or loosing? ? All the dark maron fabric is from a very very fine wool Kimono fabric about 80 plus years old it has been constantly darned with patches, ?an old Japanese lady told me that she sold all her Kimono’s except this one during and after the war to buy rice to feed her children, her husband had died and she had to sell the kimono’s for that rice. ?The kimono was also dyed many many times to make it so dark people would not see the darns or patches??? ? When she showed it to me I was so so sad and I just loved the colour so much, it’s not deep blue but a deep maron blue as it was dyed over a colour not a white fabric? ?She could see how much I loved it for the story, the patches, and darns and gifted it to me . ?I was determined to use it patches darns and holes in a quilt, then I found the beautiful blue fine wool kimono and Mothers in War was born and just grew?

Knb

This is a quilt for me to sleep under. ?I loved making it, I’m loving quilting it and I will love it on the double bed?

Innn

InnSashiko quilting using DMC 5 threads , plus 3 threads from a DMC normal embroidery thread on the large flowers. ?Thread is a very deep maron colour and shows up beautifully.

Jjn

Close up

Hbb

My first triangle all most completed. ?It’s taking me 5 nights 8pm till 12pm to quilt one triangle.

Two

Two triangles done 6 to go LOL.

Working now on a corn er

Working now on a corner of the blue wool kimono, it’s not showing up like on the plain colour but it will be nice.

Hbb

Sashiko stitches are a tiny bit bigger here than on the maroon?

This Lo vely??old lace I’ve just washed and pressed is about 50 years old ?and machine made, will use it on some of my heirloom blocks.

How I make tiny tiny circles the below ones are?smaller than the top of a colouringing in pencil. You need to use batics or silks so the threads don’t unravel.

First cut squares with a good 1/4

First cut squares with a good 3/4 inch around the circle shape.

Draw a circle 1/8 th from the edge of the circle

Draw a circle 1/8 th from the edge of the circle Then do a running stitch on the line around the circle make sure those stitches are only 2 or 3 threads or it won’t work if your stitches are big, I use a number 11 needle and silk or bottom line thread.

Mnnn

running thread starts and ends behind the fabric.

Jnnh

cut away the fabric only leaving a scant 1/8th of fabric outside the stitches.

Hbbb

use some thing that is smaller than the circle to hold the template in place then pull thread in and around it.

Pull thread tight and gently remove the pen or pencil and slowly pull in thread and sew a knot . Gently work in to a perfect circle with you needle and fingers?
